Brunswick County established its Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) in 2006, consistent with Federal Public Law 99-499, the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986, under Title III, Section 301 (also known as the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act).
The mission of the Brunswick LEPC is to establish authorities and procedures whereby the County can effectively apply its personnel and resources of private community, state agencies, and other assisting local governments to ensure that casualties and property damage will be minimized and normal conditions will be restored as rapidly as possible in the event of a natural or man-made disaster.
The Brunswick LEPC assists emergency management personnel with maintaining and updating the local emergency operations plan, organizing exercises as needed, enhancing Brunswick County’s preparation and response capabilities, completing surveys and assessment reports as required, and educating the public about risks from all natural and technological hazards.
